Indian Spring: nine lots, three generations

Indian Spring is a compact sale, and deliberately so. Nine lots, each chosen because it says something about where Indian painting has been and where it is going.

The masters

Raza's 1968 landscape (Lot 2) and B. Prabha's Kindred (Lot 1) anchor the sale. Three Souza ink drawings (Lots 5, 6 and 8) show the artist at his most uninhibited.

The Calcutta line

Paritosh Sen, Rabin Mondal and Jogen Chowdhury represent three generations of Bengali expressionism, from the Calcutta Group of the 1940s to a pastel made two years ago.

The sale is on view at our Burnham rooms by appointment, and every lot can be examined in high resolution on its lot page. Bidding closes lot by lot from 2pm on the final day.
