Born in Faridpur in undivided Bengal, Jogen Chowdhury developed a sinuous, cross-hatched line that gives his distorted figures and still lifes an unsettling intimacy. He was curator of the Rashtrapati Bhavan collection and a professor at Kala Bhavana, Santiniketan.
