A Kangra miniature depicting an avatar of Vishnu, painted in the refined Pahari manner: fine line, jewel-like colour and a border of gold. The Kangra workshops of the Punjab hills produced the most lyrical of all Indian miniature painting from the late eighteenth century onwards.
